Martin Mesa Loop

Length: 10.2 miles (16.4 km).

Difficulty:  Moderate to difficult

Start Elevation: 5,229 ft (1,594 m). Tot. Elev Gain: 1,925ft (587m).

Trail Surface and Use:  Seldom used natural surface two track.

Trail Head Access:  Suitable for 2WD.  From the bridge off Hwy 141 crossing the Dolores River (mm 83) follow the seasonally graded road upstream for 2.7 mi (4.4 km) until reaching a road coming in from the left. (R 13 & T 12).

Description: This loop ride is a fun work out entirely on primitive two track roads. From the trailhead rideup the draw where the road will switchback up to the mesa rim.  After topping out at mile 1.1 (1.8 km) go right on a gentle gradient until coming to a road at mile 2 (3.2 km). Go left and follow the incline of the mesa top eventually coming to the west rim over looking Red Canyon at mile 3 (4.8 km). Continue up the west side of the mesa coming to a turn at mile 3.9 (6.3 km). Go right as the road continues to climb towards the north rim of the Paradox Valley- topping out the ride at 4.6 (7.4 km)miles . Continue to parallel the ridge. At mile 5.4 (8.7 km) the road begins the long descent back to the trail head.
